🚨🚨SPOILER ALERT🚨🚨

Before we begin this blog, from here on out, major spoilers will be brought up from both My Hero Academia and One Piece, including major plot points and character moments surrounding Bakugo and Kidd. That being said, if you are not familiar with either series and don’t want to be spoiled, I strongly advise that you stop reading from this point.

Still here? Awesome…

—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Katsuki Bakugo, the explosive hero of Class 1-A from My Hero Academia

Eustass Kidd, the magnetic pirate of the Worst Generation from One Piece

The most determined of warriors shout the loudest.

To be recognized among a society of supernatural fighters, one needs the skill, the experience, and the courage to put their life on the line if it meant they could follow in the footsteps of those who paved the path towards justice and freedom. One would need the determination to believe that they could do anything while mastering powers that can result in utter destruction.

Luckily for these two hot-headed, foul-mouthed and down right impolite rivals of their home series’ MC, they would show time and time again that they are an adversary that very well have a chance of obtaining the title they aim for. The question remains however. Which of these two prideful warriors with mean grins for days on end will be the victor in an all-out fight? Well there’s only one way to find out…

Before we get started…

Due to the fact that these two are considerably major characters in their home series and possibly even top tiers in the verse, we’ll have to look at *everything* that is considered canon to both My Hero Academia and One Piece. Unfortunately for us, that means that we have a loooooong list of media to look at for both, especially since both of these series don’t slack off in their worldbuilding.

Bakugo’s, and in turn My Hero Academia’s, canon material includes the following:
  • The original My Hero Academia manga
  • The MHA anime
  • All the MHA anime movies
  • Most spinoffs (Vigilanties, School Briefs, etc.)
  • Both MHA databooks

Kidd’s, and in turn One Piece’s, canon material includes the following:
  • The original One Piece manga
  • Any manga cover stories
  • All the One Piece databooks
  • Novels such as Novel A, Novel Law, etc.
  • SBS segments
  • The One Piece anime (with Kidd specific filler)*
  • The One Piece movies**

*We’ll be using the One Piece anime for a better perspective of certain scalable feats and we're only including any filler moments that include Kidd since his potential shown there would be in line with his general potential

**Only 5 of the 15 anime movies are canon (Strong World, Film Z, Film Gold, Stampede, Film Red). However, the actual events of these movies aren’t canon but rather some of the info from these films are canon, which includes feats that characters perform.

Just in case you’re wondering why we’re considering these canon, we’re basically taking the author’s word for it. Horikoshi has gone on to state that the movies are canon and the anime almost follows the events of the manga down to a tee. Oda may not be too involved in the anime’s production but it generally follows Oda’s story with not too many huge hiccups (excluding filler of course), and as for the movies, the 5 listed above are the ones most supported by the continuity/are directly helmed by Oda. Any other spinoff, novel, or databook mentioned above is official material that flesh out characters and the world they live in so it would of course be considered too. Finally, any video games, crossovers, or any other unofficial material unrelated to the canon will be pushed aside to gather dust in the corner.

It should also be mentioned that since these two’s stories are technically still ongoing with their series’ still not ending as of this blog, we’ll be using their most recent material as of now. More specifically, we’re using MHA up to chapter 424, which is when the Final War arc has ended, and we’re using One Piece up to chapter 1079, which is the most recent time we’ve seen Kidd in the story. Any close allies of theirs will be mentioned later on in the blog but otherwise they won’t be considered for this fight. We’ll only be considering Bakugo and Kidd as solo fighters so there will be no Deku/Class 1A or Kid Pirates involved.

Oh yeah, one more thing. I couldn’t have made this blog without help from numerous other blogs/people. Shout out to Supermonye for helping me write certain parts of the blog and also to LandonTalksALot for that plus the scaling edits, and a huge shoutout to G1 Blogs for some of the major feats and calculations included (more specifically, shout out to their Deku vs Asta blog, their Shigaraki vs Mahito blog, and their Sanji vs Rock Lee blog) and also The Versus Battle Arena's Leon vs All Might blog. I’ve made sure to credit every one of their calcs that are used here and I hope nothing comes off as copy paste. Also shoutout to all the VS Wiki calcs that I link in the blog.

With all that out of the way, let’s begin.

Background

Bakugo

"Stop talking, I will win. That's... what heroes do!"

In the world of My Hero Academia, fantasy would turn into reality.

The birth of a glowing baby would mark the beginning of a new era as society would soon be shifted by the supernatural abilities, or quirks, that started sprouting in 80% of the world’s population. Crime may have shot up to an all-time high and 20% of the human population may have become oppressed but all that despair would lead to a new ray of hope through the emergence of superheroes, a concept that only seemed possible through fictional comics. The world would no longer be hopeless against the numerous villainous threats heading their way with legendary heroes such as All Might at the frontlines. All Might would be an inspiration to all as a symbol of hope and peace, and wouldn’t you know it, one of those very people just so happened to be a hot-headed child by the name of Katsuki Bakugo.

Hot-headed is putting it lightly if we’re being frank. We’re talking about one of the most foul mouthed, arrogant, and aggressive heroes the world would soon see, but beneath that outer layer of anger issues was the awe he had for his idol All Might. He had determination like no other to surpass his likeness and become the number 1 hero himself, and luckily for him, he was a child born with one of the most destructive quirks in the entire series: Explosion. With this newfound quirk, he would use it to bully the likes of weaker quirk users and even quirkless people such as his soon-to-be-rival Izuki Midoriya, or as Bakugo liked to call him, Deku, a name that translates to “good-for-nothing”.

Even with this relentless bullying they somehow managed to stay friends, but in all fairness, it’s hard for Deku to hate someone if they aren’t pure evil, and especially in the case of Bakugo, Deku had always looked up to him for his confidence and strength. He even continues to call him by his childhood nickname of Kacchan as a friendly way to refer to him. Despite all of Deku’s acts of kindness towards him, it would only make Bakugo’s bullying worse as he believed Deku was simply mocking him which further ignited his anger. The worst of it would come after Bakugo made it to UA High, a top-tier high school built for teaching the future generation of heroes.

Up to this point in life, Bakugo was constantly being praised for everything mentioned before (except the bullying), making him believe that he had a 100% chance of being better than every super in the world. His time at UA High would start to make him doubt his own abilities once he learned that Deku, the seemingly weak and quirkless kid that was merely an annoyance, was somehow able to make it to the school too while getting all the spotlight as a potential candidate for the Number 1 Hero. That’s not to say that Bakugo wasn’t praised just as much with his numerous compliments during events such as the Sports Festival, attacks such as the Forest Training Camp incident, and his overall dedication to win through any means necessary, but nonetheless Bakugo felt disappointed in himself for being unable to surpass his rival and prove that he can never lose. These feelings would only get worse once he was captured by the newly-founded League of Villains who wanted him to join their cause.

Bakugo would eventually be able to escape with the help of his fellow classmates but the confrontation with the League of Villains and All For One, a villain that was the polar opposite of everything All Might stood for, would end up leaving All Might in a permanent crippled state and unable to do hero work for good. This would put Bakugo through the ringer as he felt like he was the one who caused all of this due to him never being strong enough to avoid capture. He would end up taking out his anger in a fight against Deku but both he and All Might manage to snap Bakugo out of it and convince him that the best thing to do now is to learn from each other’s mistakes and continue growing as heroes. The fight would have its positive effects however, as Deku and Bakugo managed to speak out their true feelings and come out of the fight with more trust and respect for each other, and most importantly, a new motivation to surpass the other and become the top hero of the word themself.

From that point on, while Bakugo would continue to be the arrogant hero that he is, he would now always try to look out for Deku whenever he could. Whether it’d be saving him from Shigiraki’s attacks, teaming up with him to wield One For All in a canon movie, and being the one to lead Class 1-A on a mission to save Deku from going rouge, Bakugo would come to realize that being a hero isn’t just about being powerful by yourself, it’s about working together with many other powerful heroes to bring peace to society. Even when he was on death door’s after having his heart burst by Shigaraki, he would keep that determination to become the number one hero in the world, so with the help of Edgeshot and a little bit of luck on his side, he managed to come back to life and save All Might from an untimely demise by All For One. Now realizing what allows him to unlock the full potential of his quirk, he goes on to directly fight All For One and manages to destroy his original body before passing out while doing a victory pose (classic Bakugo!). He then wakes up in a hospital a little later, hearing about all the remaining heroes fighting off All For One, who had managed to transfer his consciousness into Shigaraki’s body, to which he immediately blasts from the hospital to the battlefield to confront him one final time… somehow.

With All For One and Shigaraki finally defeated and the Final War finally being over, Bakugo would wake up in the hospital once again, learning that his injuries from the Final War could severely cripple him from doing anymore hero work. None of that news would hurt him as hard as when he learned that Deku had sacrificed One For All in order to rid of Shigaraki and AFO for good, meaning that his future rival was gonna be quirkless for the rest of his life. Bakugo would start to regret everything he ever did to Deku as he believed Deku would still compete with him, but All Might reassures the both of them that they had both grown strong and that if it weren’t for their efforts, the world would’ve been in a much darker place.

The future of Bakugo may be unclear as of right now but he’s certainly exploded his way towards being a worthy candidate for the number 1 hero.

Eustass Kidd

"It's do or die here! If you don't have that kind of resolve then you shouldn't have come in the first place!"

Wealth, fame, power.

Long ago, the legendary pirate Gol D. Roger was executed by the World Government after achieving everything the world had to offer, but not without leaving behind a mission to the rest of the world. Just as he was sent to Davy Jones’ Locker, he told the world that he left everything he obtained in one piece, challenging all those who dared to traverse the Grand Line to find it. Therefore, a new age of piracy began, and along with it came an entirely new generation of pirates taking to the seas to claim the title of Pirate King. During this era, an infamous group of rookie pirates made their names known throughout the world, simply being known as the Worst Generation. You had your Jewelry Bonney’s, your Scratchman Apoo’s, and even your Basil Hawkins’, but one stood out from the rest for his bloodthirsty nature, a guy who had killed thousands of innocent civilians and caused total destruction wherever he went. A pirate that would do whatever it took to take revenge on those who got in his way, Captain Eustass Kidd.

Not a whole lot is known about Kidd’s past, but from what we do know, he was born in and grew up on an island in the South Blue, where he would meet his soon-to-be right-hand-man Killer. The two would rule over the island alongside fellow future crew members Heat and Wire, with all four of them being the bosses of their own gangs in their four separate towns. After Kidd’s and Killer’s childhood crush was murdered by a rival gang however, the four would team up to take revenge and absolutely destroy their island in the process. This would lead to the creation of Kidd’s pirate crew, and the incident that took place on their home island would mark the beginning of their reputation as one of the most dangerous crews in the seas.

As the crew sailed into the Grandline and quickly rose through the ranks of the One Piece world, eventually gaining a bounty of 315 million berries (the currency of One Piece) due to his and his crew’s kill count of civilians, Kidd would use this opportunity to pursue the goal he’s always had as a child: to find the One Piece and become the King of the Pirates. However, this quest wouldn’t be without its obstacles, especially when he crossed paths with many members of the Worst Generation in Sabaody Archipelago, the most notable of which were the infamous newcomers of Monkey D. Luffy and Trafalgar D. Water Law. When it came to Luffy specifically however, he would be especially intrigued in him after he witnessed him punching a Celestial Dragon, members of a higher power that represent true evil in the One Piece world, in a slavery auction house.

In fact, Kidd absolutely despised the twisted nature of Celestial Dragons and the World Government, the police force of the One Piece world, as a whole. It would only make sense that he saw them as one of his greatest enemies considering that the corruption present in the system was letting Celestial Dragons indulge in the likes of slavery and murder just for the fun of it without any real consequences. Rebelling against the World Government is his way of removing the “scum” staining the world, which is ironic given that we’re talking about Eustass Kidd, a cocky, vicious and generally anger-filled captain that loves to take revenge on every person who’s wronged him while also refusing to back down from a fight for his pride alone.

He would walk out of that auction house finding new rivals in Luffy and Trafalgar Law, and together they would demolish the marines that were blocking their way with each of their unique Devil Fruits. The three captains and their respective crews would then go their own separate ways and only meet again once they reached the second half of the Grand Line, or the New World. When it came to Kidd specifically, his new ultimate goal would be to defeat the four emperors to become the #1 Pirate, to which he attacked the likes of Shanks, Big Mom, and Kaido’s forces which led to varying levels of success. He even attempted to ally with the previously-mentioned Hawkins and Scratchman Apoo, although the latter would betray the two and snitch their locations to Kaido.

Kidd would be imprisoned in Oginishima after being effortlessly defeated by Kaido, and when he was later transported to the Udon Prisoner Mine, he would end up meeting Luffy again who had just made it to Wano. Luffy was currently planning to raid Oginishima to take down Kaido, so deciding it was the best course of action, he demanded that Kidd allied with him, and due to a newfound mistrust caused by Apoo, he would initially reject this alliance. When the raid actually occurs however, Kidd decides to join Straw Hat anyways. A long night would ensue as Kidd would constantly battle against Kaido and the entirety of the Beast Pirates alongside the Straw Hat Pirates, the Heart Pirates, and the Ayakaza Nine. He would entrust Luffy to defeat Kaido while he and Law focused on defeating Big Mom, and after a long fought battle on both sides, they would finally come out on top after not defeating just one, but BOTH emperors, forever changing the power dynamic of the world.

The thing about Kidd is that beneath all the childish antics and aura that makes him seem more of a villain compared to other heroic pirates we see in the series, he does have some redeeming factors. He never shows it as it would go against his tsundere nature (typical) but he does hold respect for people he’s shown interest in or even put faith in. He always thought Luffy was an interesting guy, he always looked out for Killer whenever he could, and he even synchronized well enough with Law to fight with him. More than anything however, his confidence and determination is like no other, and that would be put on full display when he encountered Shanks on his way to Elbaf. Even if Kidd was embarrassingly one-shot by Shanks and friends, losing his entire crew, resources, and internet reputation in the process, his drive to win is still something worth recognizing.

There’s now the lingering question of whether Kidd is gone for good or miraculously survived… somehow… but believe it or not, he was certainly a worthy rival for the title of Pirate King.

Experience

Bakugo

Over the entire course of his life, Bakugo has been considered to be a natural-born genius with the highest potential of becoming one of the best Pro Heroes all around. He was already being treated as a prodigy for his quirk and high intelligence level before he even joined UA High (which in turn fueled his arrogance), but once he did apply for UA High, he passed the exam entrance with flying colors, getting the highest score out of everyone who took it. He’s even surprisingly talented in areas such as cooking and music despite not showing interest in either. His ability to strategize mid-battle and take advantage of his opponents weaknesses would let him come out on top in fights and he is usually perceptive of his surroundings, being able to deduct things such as Deku’s connection to All Might with little evidence.

The entrance exam wouldn’t be the only event he aced in as he managed to win the Sports Festival against the likes of other skilled students such as Tokoyami and Todoroki, and he’s overall proven himself to be one of the strongest students in Class 1-A. Pro heroes such as Aizawa and All Might have praised his sheer talent, he’s been able to overpower numerous experienced villains whenever Class 1-A was surprise attacked by the League of Villains, and he’s been able to stand his ground against the likes of Deku who was the literal successor of All Might and just as talented with his quirk as Bakugo was. His skill would only continue growing due to his determination to surpass Deku, letting him fight side-by-side with world renowned heroes such as Endeavor, Mirko, and Gran Torino while also furthering his quirk’s development and utility. He was even able to fight alongside the Big 3 who were considered some of the strongest U.A. students at the time and face villains that were way too much to handle even when they all teamed up.

Eustass Kidd

Eustass Kidd may not seem all that smart considering his tendency to charge into battle without a plan and the many times he had lost because of that behavior but he does in fact have some smarts and the experience to back it up. His ability to create complex structures with magnetism alone requires a competent understanding in how magnetism works, especially working machines such as his rail gun. There’s also the fact that Kidd has been a strategic mastermind mid-battle on many occasions such as when he came up with the plan to isolate Big Mom from her homies and knock her into the ocean to drown her, coordinating everyone to make sure the plan went as intended. He knows when to ally with other fellow Supernova when he wants to take down one of the Yonko and how to make that alliance occur, even if he would unknowingly be betrayed in the future.

He would also be the one to teach himself how to use Haki, and in general has a deep understanding of how the world functions along with a developed connection to the underworld and had info on topics such as Caesar Clown’s experiments and the balance of the Three Great Powers after Whitebeard had died. In terms of fighting, he could match the likes of infamous Yonkos such as Kaido and Big Mom who were pirates with literal decades of experience. Even before he fully met the two powerhouses, Kidd had defeated numerous pirate crews and crucified them as he believed they weren’t ready for the New World, was able to hold his own against seemingly indestructible Pacifistas, or human weapons cloned from Warlord Bartholomew Kuma, and even invade Big Mom’s territory and injure one of her Sweet Commanders along with stealing a Road Poneglyph copy that would let Kidd get closer to finding the One Piece. There’s very much a reason why Kidd nowadays has a bounty of 3 billion berries, which he had gained for defeating Big Mom alongside Law.

Bakugo

Hero Costume

To be considered a hero in the world of MHA, one needs a distinguished look to stand out among the rest. These costumes are specially tailored to strengthen the Quirk of the wearer while also suiting their fighting style, and in Bakugo’s case, his costume absolutely represents the kind of hero he is.

He also dons a different costume during the winter months, which adds a large black jacket to his costume instead of the regular sleeveless tank top. Theoretically the black jacket would allow him to produce more sweat which in turn can strengthen his quirk even further.

Grenadier Bracers

These two grenade-shaped metal gauntlets aren’t just worn to make Bakugo look good. Rather, they act as storage tanks that store any sweat that Bakugo builds up while fighting. Once these tanks are filled, he can pull the grenade pin on the gauntlet to release a large explosion that’s aimed towards an opponent. These gauntlets are the aspect of his costume that compliment his quirk the most (which I’ll explain said quirk later).

Improvised Grenades

On the belt of his hero costume, Bakugo attached numerous containers that take on the appearance of hand grenades. These containers store Bakugo’s sweat like how his gauntlets do, to which they can be used like actual grenades.

Strafing Panzer

These retractable machine guns are added to Bakugo’s costume later on in the story, and just like his grenades, these shoulder-mounted weapons use his sweat as ammunition to blow his enemies to smithereens.

Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight

Gifted to Bakugo after he had saved All Might from a gruesome death, he wields this mechanical gauntlet with one mouthful of a name as a sort of brace for his broken arm. While wearing this gauntlet, he can go back to shooting his explosions at full-power but its actual purpose of creating explosions was broken by AFO. The gauntlet was made with the initial purpose of replicating Bakugo’s quirk and was a leftover part of All Might’s armored suit, which was composed entirely of mechanical replicants of the quirks of Class-1A.

Eustass Kidd

Prosthetic Metal Arm

After the events of Marineford, Kidd found himself face-to-face with the Red Hair Pirates’ first mate Benn Beckman, a battle that cost Kidd an arm. Luckily, he used his magnetic powers to make himself a new arm, and since he can always put it back together with his magnetism, he’ll never have to worry about losing it again!

Any metal weapon (technically)

Since Kidd’s power has the ability to attract a wide variety of metal objects including weapons such as swords and guns, he could easily grab any of those weapons and either wield them himself or send them flying back towards a target.

Abilities

Bakugo

Quirk: Explosion

As mentioned before, quirks are supernatural abilities that are found in 80% of the population, being defined as humanity’s next step in the evolution cycle. While some powers are more common than others, a majority of quirks are uniquely suited to its user, and each quirk can be specifically useful in certain scenarios. Some are more fit for support, some are more fit for evasion, but in Bakugo’s case, his quirk was built for total destruction, a quirk by the very on-the-nose name of Explosion.

Bakugo’s quirk allows him to release nitroglycerin-like sweat from his palms which he can then ignite on command to create powerful explosions. The equipment that was mentioned before can further increase the power of these explosions but it’s not required that he wears them as sweating more is what creates the biggest explosions seen in the story.

Having his quirk formed at a young age, Bakugo’s become skilled enough to use his quirk in creative ways such as using the shockwaves from his explosions as shields or using those same explosions to quickly fly through the air (more on that in a sec). He’s even to drop his sweat onto others to create delayed remote explosions if something creates enough force to ignite them. There’s nothing stopping him from continuously creating explosions to break through the toughest of defenses. Although, the more that he uses his quirk, the more that his forearms start to hurt.

Fighting Skill

Even without his quirk, Bakugo is a monster at hand to hand combat. He has the fighting prowess to match the likes of Deku on multiple occasions, overpower powerful villains such as Kurogiri, and physically go toe to toe with ultimate power houses such as Shigaraki and All For One. His main fighting style is that of a complete offense with no defense, using his quirk to stay close to his opponents and blast them away.

Explosive Speed

By aiming his hands behind his back and utilizing his quirk, Bakugo can propel himself through the air using the force from his explosions. He’s accustomed himself to this high-speed navigation method so well that he can fly around his opponents and attack them fast enough to outspeed them. He can even evade attacks while in the air using this speed.

Stun Grenade

By creating a sphere of light in between his hands, Bakugo can explode it into a large flash that will blind anyone that happens to be close by, stunning them long enough to leave them wide open for an attack. This technique has proven to be especially practical against powers who are weak to light such as Tokoyami’s Dark Shadow. A version of this move, referred to as “Point-Blank Stun Grenade”, is the same exact technique but performed right in front of an opponent.

AP Shot

This move focuses on honing his explosions into a single point rather than having those explosions be fired from his entire palm, letting him create focused blasts that can pierce through solid surfaces with greater ease. He performs this move by creating a circle with one hand and placing it on top of his other palm, using the circle to create these pinpointed shots.

AP Shot Auto Cannon

A rapid-fire version of AP Shot that has its explosion power reduced in order to avoid hurting innocent citizens who are potentially in the crossfire.

AP Machine Gun

A much stronger version of AP Shot Auto Cannon where Bakugo can go all out with much larger explosions at an even faster fire-rate.

Howitzer Impact

The ever-famous Howitzer Impact involves Bakugo pretty much turning himself into a human missile, by using explosions to propel himself in a circular motion to create a tornado while mid-air. The resulting tornado collects oxygen and even more momentum, which is used to fuel the ensuing explosion by transferring all of that into one hand. He's used this move to shatter Todoroki's Heaven-Piercing Ice Wall, and to make it even better, it's even his finishing move in Jump Force!

Explode-A-Pult

Bakugo uses his explosions to propel himself in mid-air while grabbing an opponent. Then, he uses an explosion with his free arm to propel himself in a spinning motion, fast enough that he uses said momentum to launch his opponent at high speeds. Good for creating distance, though you have to get close enough to your opponent to use it.

Land Mine Blast

Aiming his Grenadier Bracers into the ground lets him create an explosion that will blow back anyone and anything around him. This move proves especially useful when he needs to clear away gasses that are blocking his view/endangering him and his team such as Deku’s smokescreen.

Cluster

When he was out of his depth against Shigaraki, Bakugo was able to understand the true aspect of how to best use his Quirk. After all, there's only one thing better than an explosion. Multiple explosions! By condensing his explosions, Bakugo can unleash a burst of explosions that can be employed in several ways, at a much stronger and faster pace as you'll see below.

Explosive Speed: Cluster

This is pretty much the same thing as Explosive Speed, but due to the Cluster Technique being used, it’s much faster, to the point that he can keep pace with Shigaraki.

Howitzer Impact: Cluster Bomb

Ah yes. His absolute strongest attack. By combining the use of the Strafe Panzer (The nifty Explosion machine guns on his costume) and the Cluster technique, Bakugo is able to turn this special move into a far more deadly one. As not only is it more powerful due to the use of the Cluster technique, it also allows him to spray explosions Omni-directonally. A fitting spectacle for Bakugo.

Eustass Kidd

Jiki Jiki no Mi (Magnet-Magnet Fruit)

Within the One Piece world, there are a vast set of mystical fruits known as Devil Fruits. After just one bite, the consumer’s DNA is completely altered, giving them incredible supernatural powers. They vary quite a bit in ability, like being able to manipulate the elements or even turn into different creatures.

For Kidd, he ate the Magnet-Magnet Fruit, a Devil Fruit that allows him to create magnetic fields to control metal. This includes being able to attract and repel metal to and away from the user’s body, and can even attract themselves to a nearby piece of metal, like a grappling hook. Additionally, with enough precision, Kidd can control metal as if he were moving it with telekinesis, allowing for a variety of different uses. With this ability, Kidd primarily likes to accumulate a large amount of scrap metal and form them into specific shapes, all of which we’ll discuss here in a moment.

However, there’s one more aspect to note when it comes to the power of Devil Fruits. On rare occasions, certain fruits can become Awakened; it’s unknown how exactly it is achieved, but upon doing so with his Devil Fruit, Kidd gained a nifty new ability in that he can essentially turn living organisms into magnets by assigning them with their own polarity.

Fighting Skill

While Kidd tends to rely on his Devil Fruit to do the heavy lifting, he does actually showcase some pretty good hand to hand combat skill during Wano. While wearing Seastone cuffs and only having one arm, he was able to hold his own in a physical bout against Dobon, the vice warden of Udon prison and a crew member of the Beast pirates, and effortlessly defeat him with a single punch alongside Luffy. He also managed to beat up Poker without using his Devil Fruit since he was saving that power for Kaido and he even beats up Big Mom with his metal arm (as seen above).

Repel

Using his magnetic powers, Kidd takes a metallic object coming at him and repels it back in the direction it came from, essentially a deflection technique. This technique is activated by opening his hand and stretching it out in front of him, and he can even repel opponents lacking any metal by wrapping any part of them with his own scrap metal.

Punk Gibson

One of Kidd’s more signature moves, he attracts a large amount of scrap metal to form giant arms, allowing him to crush his opponents under their massive weight. Punk Gibson can also be used defensively as he can block attacks with the giant arm such as when he blocked an incoming laser from a Pacifista.

Punk Rotten

Once again, by attracting a large amount of scrap metal, Kidd uses it to form a giant metal golem with a skull-like face. It’s essentially a mech that Kidd can pilot, using his magnetic abilities to make it fly. The golem itself is made up of a torso with two unattached hands that Kidd can easily control from his seat on the back of the golem. If the golem is majorly damaged in any way, it can easily be put back together as Kidd has the ability to rebuild it as many times as he pleases.

Punk Vise

After creating Punk Rotten, Kidd uses its giant hands to crush his target with both hands. It manages to make Kaido feel pain despite not being able to pierce through his skin.

Slam Gibson

Once again, with Punk Rotten, Kidd uses it to grab his opponent and slam them to the ground. He himself doesn’t even have to be close to his opponent because he can telekinetically control Punk Rotten’s metal hands to wherever he needs it to be.

Punk Pistols

Kidd forms a gigantic harpoon gun onto his arm out of scrap metal, rapidly firing metal spears at his target like a gatling gun. He used this move on Big Mom but it failed to damage her due to her tough skin.

Punk Corna Dio

Using a large amount of metal, Kidd shapes it into the form of a large, metallic bull, even shown to be bigger than Big Mom. With it, he can charge ahead and demolish anything in his way with the bull’s sheer size and destructive capability. Just like Punk Rotten, the bull can easily be destroyed but it can just as easily be put back together.

Damned Punk

One of Kidd’s most dangerous abilities, he uses the scrap metal he attracts to form a giant railgun, charging it up to fire an electromagnetic blast at any poor soul in its sights. The railgun has even been shown capable of pulling targets towards it, making it easier for him to hit them.

Assign

Upon awakening his Devil Fruit, Kidd gained the ability to assign a target with their own magnetic polarity, signified by an N (North) or an S (South). Those assigned will be drawn together until they stick to one another, like when he used it against Big Mom and Napoleon, and when he pinned her to the floor. The target doesn’t need to be magnetic themselves in order for this technique to work.

Punk Crash

After using Assign, Kidd greatly increases the level of attraction between the objects he used it on, which can lead to grave consequences, like Big Mom being buried underneath a large pile of steel and rubble.

Haki

Haki is a spiritual energy that one can utilize for various purposes, though most mainly use it for combat. All living beings have it in some form, but some seek out further training to hone it, as it greatly increases their capabilities. Haki is a notably difficult technique to master, as even someone as proficient in it as Silvers Rayleigh said that two years wouldn’t be enough time for Luffy to learn even the basics. Still, having a good understanding of Haki is vital in surviving the Grand Line, as its power can surpass even that of the strongest Devil Fruits, an example of which can be seen in the rivalry between Gol D. Roger and Edward Newgate. While the latter had the power of the destructive Quake Quake Fruit, the former was considered the stronger of the two thanks to his proficiency in Haki.

Armament Haki

This technique involves using one’s spiritual energy to form a sort of armor around their bodies, usually seen as a black coating. This not only better protects its user from oncoming attacks, but also strengthens their own attacks. An Armament Haki user can use this on a particular body part, their entire body if they so choose, or even onto their weapons. It’s stated that Kidd knows how to use it, and even showcases it during his fight with Douglas Bullet and later on against Poker in Wano.

Observation Haki

This Haki type grants its user a sort of sixth sense ability, allowing them to sense the strength, presence and emotions of those around them. This ability also gives its user semi-precognitive abilities, allowing them to read oncoming attacks much easier. He was able to sense that Kaido had defeated Luffy and he could also sense Luffy awakening Gear 5th.

Conqueror's Haki

Arguably the most powerful Haki technique, Conqueror’s Haki allows its user to essentially weaponize their willpower, causing those of weaker will to fall unconscious or even intimidate them to the point of submission. It can also be utilized in a similar method to Armament Haki where users can imbue their bodies or weapons with it to increase the strength of their attacks. Kidd showcased this ability in the anime to subdue a group of Beast Pirates along with Kaido recognizing that he was one of few people to actually have Conqueror’s Haki.

Scaling

Bakugo

Izuku Midoriya

Izuku Midoriya, or Deku, has been a rival of Bakugo ever since they started going to U.A. High together with them generally being shown to be equal in combat ability with there even being fights where Bakugo’s come out on top. That being said however, it’s hard to say that we can directly scale Bakugo to the peak power of Deku, including a certain feat that Deku has accomplished in recent chapters (see Before the Verdicts), but other than that feat, Bakugo should still scale to everything else as he can deal with foes on Deku’s level such as Shigaraki (to an extent) and a prime AFO which I’ll get to in a bit. Oh, and one more thing.

Since Deku’s performed numerous feats at different percentages of his power, we’ll be sorting those feats into their own category (and yes I’m borrowing this from G1’s Deku vs Asta blog but once again shout out to them for the feats/calcs listed here).

100%

Other

All Might

Ah yes, the man the myth the legend himself, All Might! Bakugo has shown to be able to withstand attacks from and even deal a small amount of damage to a weakened version of All Might but for the sake of scaling higher tier characters, we’ll also be scaling him at his prime since Bakugo can fight off characters that should be at his Prime All Might’s level. One key piece of information to note is that what could’ve taken 5 punches in his prime turned out to be 300 punches when he fought the USJ Nomu, meaning that prime All Might would be 60 times more powerful than his current state, and thus we’ll be taking that into consideration.

Weakened:

Prime:
  • Known to be faster than a speeding bullet
    • Supersonic MHA confirmed????
  • Using the multiplier, we can multiply his feat of destroying the giant steel cube by 60 (52.65 Teratons)
  • Using the multiplier, we can multiply his feat of reacting to his motorcycle’s laser by 60 (38.4c)

Class 1A

Bakugo’s freshmen class when he started going to UA High, a class that’s often highlighted to be one of the best at the school. Bakugo is consistently regarded as one of the top students of Class 1A in terms of both strength and determination, only being matched by fellow hero students such as Deku and Todoroki. He’s even proven this with how he was able to come out on top in events such as the Sports Festival and Joint Training Battle.

As such, it would be justified to upscale him from every 1A student and their feats:

Other Heroes/Villains

The country of Japan is home to many pro heroes and dangerous villains that have amassed quite the reputation for themselves. Whether it’d be the most honorable of do-gooders such as Endeavor and Stars and Stripes or the most despicable low-lifes such as Muscular and Gigantomachia, they have made their mark in the story at one point or another. With Bakugo now standing among the most respected of heroes as one of their all-stars, he should not only scale to those pro heroes but he should be able to upscale from every villain defeated prior to his assumed death.

Vigilantes

Vigilantes are heroes that use their quirks to help others despite not being licensed to do so. While the events of Vigilantes take place before the events of My Hero Academia, it would be reasonable to presume that the likes of more experienced heroes such as Deku and Bakugo should be able to surpass anything that untrained Vigilantes can accomplish.

League of Villains

Bakugo and Class 1A have had numerous run-ins with a group known as the League of Villains, who are a powerful group of villains that have the potential to destroy hero society as a whole. Being led by Tomura Shigaraki, they’ve invaded U.A. grounds on more than one occasion and challenged many of the more notable students of Class 1A, including Bakugo. In fact they’ve even captured Bakugo on one occasion and yet they struggled to catch up with him when they fought, meaning that Bakugo should scale above most of the group’s members.

Now as for scaling Bakugo to Shigaraki, especially Complete Shigaraki, it’s complicated to say the least. Bakugo has been able to push Shigaraki back with his explosions multiple times and made Shigaraki feel threatened by his presence but he wasn’t properly able to hurt him through blunt force due to his high durability or keep up with him even when his quirk was removed by Aizawa. This is especially present in Bakugo’s fight against Complete Shigaraki where he’s only able to burn his skin off with his ultimate move and then proceed to, well y’know.

Nonetheless, he should still be able to scale to a majority of Shigaraki's feats because of his fight against AFO who is comparable to both prime All Might and Complete Shigaraki (not counting their merger).

The rest of the league:

Shigaraki:

All For One

In the Final War arc, a post-revival Bakugo was able to hold his own against an All For One that had reached his peak potential in his younger state (long story). Bakugo could not only match him in power and hurt him with his explosions but he could also match him in speed, and since he can match AFO in his prime, he should also be able to upscale from anything AFO had done while weakened. TLDR; we’ll be scaling AFO at both his weakened state and his prime state.

Weakened:

Prime:
  • Should automatically scale to a prime All Might
  • Should automatically scale above anything Nine has done
  • Nine wielded a weaker version of AFO (the quirk)
  • Should be comparable to Shigaraki in his prime, if not higher
  • Destroyed an island when fighting Nana Shimura who was the 7th OFA user
  • Took a combined attack from numerous heroes and Gigantomachia and came out unscathed
  • Blitzed X-66 Fighter Jets that were able to dodge Shigaraki’s lightspeed radio waves alongside Star and Stripe (see Before the Verdicts)
  • Omni-Factor Unleash is his strongest attack, which has him release every single Quirk he’s ever stolen at full power

Eustass Kidd

Monkey D Luffy

While Kidd would not scale to the absolute peak of the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, he was still shown to be on equal footing with him in terms of strength during the Raid on Onigashima, fighting alongside him against the likes of Kaido. Thus, he should at least be somewhat comparable to a pre-Gear 5 Luffy.

We’ll also be separating his feats into pre-timeskip and post-timeskip sections since it’s made very clear that he’s grown in power once we see him after the timeskip, so he should naturally upscale pretty much all of his pre-timeskip feats.

Pre-timeskip:

Post-timeskip:

Trafalgar D Water Law

Kidd and the captain of the Heart Pirates Trafalgar D. Law teamed up to defeat Big Mom, and both were able to show relativity to one another during the fight, as one would likely not have beaten her without the other. Combined with both being able to get hits off on Kaido, the two should be well-within each other’s power.

Worst Generation

Just when the marines had their hands full with maintaining order across the four seas, the Grandline, and everywhere in between, then came along the group of esteemed rookie pirates to throw everything off course. Kidd’s not only managed to have the highest bounty of all the Worst Generation pirates during pre-timeskip but he fought alongside the likes of Luffy and Law in both pre and post-timeskip, making him one of the more notable members of this Worst Generation.

As such, Kidd should be able to either match or be much more powerful than every member of the Worst Generation in both pre and post timeskip.

Other Notable Pirates/Warlords

The One Piece world is filled to the BRIM with pirates as to be expected, and luckily for Kidd, these are pirates that can be considered notable for one reason or another. Now of course, Kidd can’t upscale the top TOP tiers of the pirate world (yet) but there are numerous pirates that Kidd should automatically scale above via scaling to Luffy before Gear 5.

We’ll also be lumping all Warlords (except Mihawk for obvious reasons) into this category too since there’s no better place to put them.

Yonkos + Their Crews

Thanks to the Oginishima Raid, we can easily scale Kidd to the likes of Big Mom as he was able to push her around and harm her in their multiple battles. By directly scaling to Big Mom, Kidd should also be able to upscale every single member of her crew. You might be thinking why this section refers to “Yonkos” and not just Big Mom but that’s because we can actually scale Big Mom to Kaido. Big Mom’s been shown to casually match Kaido in power and durability, whether it’d be their clash that split the sky or them coming out unscathed after a drawn-out battle.

Despite bringing Kaido into this scaling section too, we won’t be fully scaling Kidd to anything higher than base (and possibly Hybrid) Kaido. He’s still very much impressive in base, normal dragon form, and even hybrid at its most casual but scaling him any higher would be unrealistic as only Gear 5 Luffy was able to match those versions of Kaido. Kidd will also be upscaling every member of the Beast Pirates since Kaido is the most powerful and is the captain of the crew.

Whitebeard will also be briefly mentioned here but I’ll explain his higher-tier stuff in Before the Verdicts.

Weaknessess

Bakugo

For as accomplished of a hero that Bakugo is, he does have some very distinct weaknesses that can hinder his hero work greatly. In order for his quirk to work, he needs to be able to create sweat, meaning that his quirk becomes useless in areas of cold or dry conditions. The huge explosions he generates also puts a lot of stress on his arms if done in succession, and it only gets worse when he uses the powerhouse technique that is Cluster. Aside from his quirk, his biggest weaknesses tend to focus more on his personality.

He can tend to come off as a villain with how rude and dangerous he acts when trying to save people and his temper leads him to lash out at the smallest things. He’s developed a superiority complex with the constant praise that he gets for his talents and his determination to win can lead him down an undesirable outcome if he were to lose. This kind of personality can lead to him being reckless in battles and his arrogance and drive to win can get the best of him if he’s not careful.

Eustass Kidd

As expected for a guy memed on the internet as “Useless D Mid”, Kidd has taken as many L’s as he has taken as many W’s. Devil fruits such as Kidd’s have a general weakness of seawater as DF users will have their ability to swim be taken away once they consume the fruit. With Kidd’s Devil Fruit specifically, it requires there to be enough metal to create the more complex structures that we see Kidd use, meaning that Kidd will either have to be lucky enough to be in an area full of metal or he’ll have to stockpile a ton of metal in advance. Creating those large structures takes time and the sturdiness of those larger structures will also fall apart if he takes major damage.

More than anything however, his personality is where his biggest weakness is highlighted. His arrogance has led him to underestimate his opponents numerous times, his recklessness leads to him making stupid decisions, and in general is unwise with how he plays high-risk high-reward with his opponents. That’s not even mentioning how he loses his cool at insignificant bothers which leads to violence as the solution and his general ill-mannered attitude towards those he doesn’t show respect for.

Before The Verdicts

Is Bakugo getting All For One?

Presumably not.

The only reason why Bakugo got access to One For All to begin with was because Deku was desperate to defeat the villain Nine, so as a last ditch attempt to stop him, he touched fingers with Bakugo to transfer his quirk via exchanging blood. Since OFA can be transferred via the DNA of its current user to a new user, it gives Bakugo all of base OFA’s abilities such as a great boost in strength, speed, and durability along with the side effect of boosting his own quirk as well. He was able to use Full Cowl 100% to deliver a powerful punch without knowing how to do so before and it was also used to enhance his standard explosions to the point that it could create huge craters and melt solid rock into lava.

While it would be a powerful part of Bakugo’s arsenal, the end of their fight against Nine would have OFA not transfer into Bakugo since he knocks out before the transfer could complete. That’s what All Might initially believed but he would later theorize that OFA stayed inside Deku because his determination to protect others let the quirk return to him. With that being said, Bakugo only borrowed Deku’s power for a limited amount of time and didn’t even get to keep that power after the fight, meaning that giving Bakugo OFA wouldn’t make sense, therefore he’s not getting it.

Can we scale Bakugo to Deku's final punch?

As cool as it would be to buff Bakugo to that sweet sweet Multi-Continental range, there are some wild assumptions that you would have to make before you could compare him to that feat. Bakugo is a powerhouse in his own right but Deku does naturally have a leg-up via his numerous quirks from other OFA users and the multipliers they give to his overall strength and speed. While there is evidence that Bakugo can catch up to Deku a majority of the time via his fights against AFO Shigaraki and prime AFO himself, it ultimately doesn’t matter when no one can scale to the final punch that Deku lands on an AFO that took control of Shigaraki’s body.

The attack that Deku performed was on a much grander scale than anything Bakugo did and he can’t directly scale to it since he wasn’t a part of the attack to begin with. It was a punch that was beyond what Deku was usually capable of since he had to absolutely push himself to the limit and put all of OFA into it. It would be hard to gauge if Shigaraki or AFO could scale to it considering that it was the final blow that obliterated them both into literal dust. That’s not even mentioning the fact that the two were also being damaged via attacks to the soul which makes it especially difficult to gauge how much of the attack they could withstand.

Without any way to properly scale anyone to Deku’s final punch, his feat of changing the weather of America for a week could only be used for Deku himself and not for anyone else, thus Bakugo won’t get this scaling.

Let's talk MHA Lasers.

(and no, we're not talking about this guy but god I wish we were)

Since there are so many specific contingencies with many different situations involving lasers, I’ve decided to clump them all under one category of Before the Verdicts so I don’t inflate the size of the whole section. To summarize this section, we’ll be talking about the legitimacy of Aoyama’s laser, the legitimacy of Flect Turn’s lasers, how Star and Stripe and the fighter jets get relativistic speeds, and why All Might is getting 38.4 times the speed of light to begin with.

Aoyama's Laser (oh brother...)
So first off we have Aoyama’s laser. For context, Aoyama’s quirk is referred to as Navel Laser which, as the name suggests, lets him shoot out a giant sparkling laser from his navel area. Despite looking like and even having some of the properties of a laser, it ultimately can’t be considered a laser that can move at light speed. It has been proven to act like a laser given that Aoyama’s laser has been shown to be affected by quirks that can affect light such as Thirteen’s Black Hole quirk and Hagakure’s Invisibility quirk, with the former being able to replicate the suck of a black hole down to having power that even light can’t escape from and the latter being able to refract Aoyama’s laser due to how her invisibility works. It also obeys a majority of laser standards such as traveling in a straight line, emitting energy, leaving burn marks, etc.

The thing is that it also breaks numerous rules such as having force, reflecting off non-reflective surfaces such as concrete and metal pipes, and being able to bend. Despite this, it’s constantly referred to as a laser or light by everyone in the series as well as Horikoshi himself, making it especially controversial if these lasers are genuine or not. With all that being said, for the purposes of this blog (and the general consensus of these darn lasers), I’ll be considering them as light beams that can’t reach the speed of light. Somehow. His laser hasn’t been portrayed to move faster than other non-light projectiles and in a narrative sense, it wouldn’t make sense for anyone in Class 1-A to scale to that actual “laser” if bullets and lightning strikes are their main concern earlier on in the series.

Fleck Turn's Lasers
Likewise, Fleck Turn’s lasers would also have to follow those same laser standards to be considered actual for real lasers, but luckily it has much more concrete evidence backing it up. While it does contradict some of the rules such as hitting the ground and picking up dust or piercing rather than burning, it’s emphasized in the movie that Flect’s quirk and his mirrors are intended to reflect light specifically. It certainly has a more concrete debate in its favor but considering that it lines up with other feats in the series now, I’ll be considering it valid for Bakugo’s scaling.

Star and Stripe is NOT Aim Dodging!
Next let’s talk about the deal with Star Stripe. This one is luckily not as much of a headache; there are just some things I need to clear up about Star and Stripe’s feats of reacting to light-based attacks. Her feat of catching a laser that’s thrown at her from Shigaraki should not be considered an “aim-grab” as she wouldn’t have had the time to catch the laser otherwise. With the way that her ability works, Star can only activate reality warping once she finishes speaking. She would’ve burned alive from the laser’s heat if she wasn’t able to catch it before she got the chance to speak. As for the pilots of the fighters jets that were able to dodge Shigaraki’s light-speed radio waves alongside Star and Stripe, it *could* be summed up to aim-dodging since Air Cannon was fired alongside it but I’m also counting it because it’s consistent with every other feat in the series.

All Might is Cracked
Finally it’s time we discussed the elephant in the room: All Might dodging his own laser from his motorcycle. In case you’re wondering, yes, this is a legitimate laser. It may look like Aoyama’s laser but it’s a completely tech-based laser with the previous chapter calling it a “Organic Alternating Current Lamp” via the chapter title along with the fact that it’s a feature of an advanced Iron-Man like suit made by Melissa Shield specifically for All Might, to which she certainly has the capability to create said technology. It also follows all the laser standards such as traveling in a straight line and leaving burn marks on AFO while also being referred to as a laser that was similar to the lasers that Star and Stripe had.

The scenario is as follows: All Might commands his motorcycle to shoot the laser, and once it was already shot, he had to move out of the way so that it could hit AFO and not him. He then had to manually activate his thrusters while also sacrificing Tentacole (a different enhancement), letting him fly away from the laser just in time. He even claims that he would be more resistant to the heat of the laser with his armor’s optical resin which is meant to replicate Invisible Girl’s quirk. This wouldn’t be considered aim dodging since it’s stated that he starts moving after the laser was fired so this is very much a valid feat. Calcing this feat gives us an Armored All Might that can react at 64% the Speed of Light.

Since he performs this laser dodging feat when he is at his weakest physically (without the armor), we can then multiply this feat by 60 to get the speed of prime All Might. Remember, it wasn’t the armor that let him react to the laser, it was in fact his own perception and reaction speed that let him *manually* activate those thrusters to avoid getting hit. The suit was also made with the intention of mimicking All Might at his prime (in strength and speed) considering that it was the only way for him to have a chance of holding prime AFO back for long enough. That 60x multiplier could even be higher considering that the last time that Melissa saw All Might was in a state that was much inferior to when All Might made that initial estimate of being 60x weaker than his prime. With this multiplier in mind, this would put All Might at 38.4 times the Speed of Light.

We can then scale prime All Might to the likes of Shigaraki and prime AFO which means the likes of Bakugo can very well scale to it. It may be an absurd number given that this is seemingly only one instance of FTL MHA but think about it. Deku could easily compare to that 64% SoL feat and would also get to FTL with Faux and Gearshift, there are numerous feats from Vigilantes that a bunch of higher tiers could upscale from, and seeing how prime AFO could casually outspeed this weak but still very fast version of All Might, he could easily get to FTL as well.

For all intents and purposes I’m considering this to be valid.

Should Kidd really scale to Big Mom and Kaido when he's seen sharing the damage with Luffy and Law?

If you’re a One Piece fanatic, then you might’ve noticed that there were certain instances where it wasn’t just Kidd applying damage to the two emperors but Law and Luffy took part in some of these combined attacks as well. To point out two specific scenarios, we have one scenario where Kidd applied damage to Kaido after Luffy had used Kong Rifle on Kaido (which is shown to hurt him) and we have another scenario where Kidd used Punk Corna Dio against Big Mom after Law had applied internal damage to her. It would be easy to say that Kidd wouldn’t compare to the emperors because of the fact that he was sharing damage between both Luffy and Law but there’s plenty of evidence against such a claim.

For one, both instances had Kaido and Big Mom acknowledge that all three were just as dangerous as each other rather than one being superior to the other. In Kaido’s case, he acknowledged that all three upstarts were able to counter his high durability with their unique abilities, implying that all three equally dealt damage to Kaido rather than one having a clear advantage in power. Now in Big Mom’s case, it may seem unclear on first read due to Big Mom referring to Law specifically but they both in fact contributed to the breaking of Big Mom’s bones. Law’s technique dealt damage on the inside while Kidd provided enough force to fully break those bones, making it more of a team effort than anything. To add further evidence, there’s been numerous other instances besides the one I mentioned where Kidd has clearly been shown to damage Big Mom, so despite Big Mom only mentioning Law, they both played their part in breaking her bones.

This is not even mentioning how the three captains of Luffy, Law, and Kidd have been portrayed as equals ever since they met for the first time. They were all seen to be handling fodder marines with little trouble in Sabaody, they could all take out a enemy ship with each of their special moves, and they all generally deliver moves together while doing great damage to their enemies, especially up against Yonkos like Kaido and Big Mom. Luffy even stated all their attacks were effective on them despite not showing otherwise.

Without any solid evidence proving otherwise, there’s no reason to believe that Kidd shouldn’t be equal to Law and Luffy and that he shouldn’t be able to apply the same damage that they can to Big Mom and Kaido.

What about scaling Kidd to Shan-

No.

But what about Blackbeard?

You might’ve noticed that I’ve yet to mention a certain pie-loving Blackbeard when I bring up the Worst Generation and Yonkos. And yes, although he isn’t usually associated with the former due to his absence in Sabaody, he did come from the generation of rookie pirates that had the biggest impact on the world. He just didn’t have as much recognition as the other Worst Generation members because he was staying low in order to pull off his grand plan at Marineford. Just a little trivia for you right there.

As for why I only mentioned him once during the entire scaling section for Kidd is that a lot of the feats that Blackbeard does can’t exactly be scaled to Kidd. Blackbeard did clash with Ace during pre-timeskip but Ace can’t really scale to Kidd without some overcomplicated scaling chains that are more tricky to figure out. Frankly, even if there was a clear way to scale Ace to Kidd, it might not be needed considering that there are scaling chains that are much more efficient such as Whitebeard to Oden to Kaido. Blackbeard could also be scaled through his tremor attack during Marineford but it brings up the same problem + Whitebeard is a more consistent way to scale Kidd to the power of the Tremor Tremor fruit. Luffy could probably scale to Blackbeard as well but the one fight we do see between them isn’t a full showcase of his power and rather Blackbeard using his verse-specific ability to nullify Luffy’s Devil Fruit.

The only way that we can scale Blackbeard to Kidd is through Law with their brief scuffle, but even then there are some questions to be asked. Law clashing against Blackbeard’s quake bubble is a good sign but he is soon defeated with little effort. We don’t even know just how much more powerful Blackbeard has become during Post-Timeskip outside of that one scuffle since we never see any other showcase of his power without resorting to scaling. He’s not needed either considering that Blackbeard is generally a mystery as of right now in terms of his true power and there are better feats and characters to scale Kidd to anyways, so that’s why Blackbeard isn’t mentioned much here.

How strong do Luffy's gears make him?

Considering that Kidd already has some decent scaling to other characters, this section isn’t necessary but nonetheless I should clarify how Luffy’s gears work and how much of a boost they give him with the exception of Gear 5. The story never states just how much stronger and faster Luffy becomes when he uses his gears but it can be figured out by looking at relevant context clues.

Let’s start with Luffy’s Gear 2nd. Now the obvious way to figure out Gear’s 2 multiplier would be to use the Doriki system (as seen below) to gauge how Luffy can stack up against the members of CP9 and their power level. At least that’s what you might initially think.
You see, the problem with using this chart is that the Doriki system only accounts for the base power of a CP9 member and not their full potential in terms of Devil Fruit power or pure skill. An argument that people make with this system is that since base Luffy can match Blueno who is at the power level of 820 and gear 2 Luffy can match Rob Lucci who is at a power level of 4000, that would mean gear 2 would be a 5x multiplier in power and speed. However, that would imply that Gear 2 Luffy could only stay even against base Lucci, which is proven to be false given that Luffy can hit base Lucci hard enough with Jet Pistol (a Gear 2 move) to force him into his Hybrid form. Since Lucci is a user of the Leopard Leopard Fruit, a carnivorous Zoan-type fruit, going into other forms besides base automatically grants him a boost in power and speed as well, meaning that Luffy should’ve never been able to match Hybrid form Lucci to begin with.

So ignoring the Doriki system for the time being, the best way to determine the multiplier Gear 2 is actually with a statement Luffy made about his new technique. He says “I noticed that it looks like you disappeared… your feet are hitting the ground more than ten times each instant to move. I figured out how to do it. I’m glad I know that technique for moving exists.” (Chapter 388)

The technique that Luffy is referring to is Soru, or Shave, which is one of the six techniques of Rokushiki (basically a superhuman martial arts style) that grants its user super speed. His statement implies that he learned how Shave was activated and he used that knowledge to create Gear 2, and Blueno even confirms it himself. Simply put, Gear 2 is just Soru, and since Soru moves its user 10x faster than normal and makes them 10x more powerful, then Gear 2 would be a 10x multiplier for base Luffy’s power and speed.

As for Gear 3rd, there is no possible way to calculate its multiplier in power alone (speed is disregarded because Gear 3rd was never about speed). The best thing we can use to reference Gear 3rd’s power is its ability to almost knock out Lucci with a single blow, even when Lucci was using the Iron Body technique to defend himself. The safest assumption we can make about Gear 3’s multiplier is that it is only *slightly* stronger than Gear 2, so as an extreme lowball, let’s say that Gear 3 is 1.1x stronger than Gear 2, meaning that Gear 3 should be 11x stronger than base Luffy.

Finally with Gear 4th, one of the best things we can work off it for its multiplier is a statement from Doflamingo when he was caught off guard by Luffy’s newfound Gear 4th form (chapter 784).

Doffy states that Luffy had “raised his power several times beyond its limit” with the combination of his Armament Haki and tensile force. Now while it may seem extremely vague at first, we can actually use the definition of several from the most trusted online dictionary to analyze exactly what several means. As described by Merriam-Webster, several has the definition of “more than two but fewer than many”, and since the site defines the word “many” as being within the range of 5-8, the number 3 or 4 could apply to what Doflamingo says here.

The other thing about Gear 4th is that it’s multiplying off of gear 2nd and NOT gear 3rd because of Doflamingo’s statement regarding how Luffy’s Gear 2nd attack didn’t have enough power behind it. With all that being said, it seems more likely than not that Gear 4th is a 4x multiplier from Gear 2nd, and if you want to be conservative, then it be a 3x multiplier at the bare minimum. As a result, Gear 4th should be a 40x multiplier for base Luffy.

To sum it all up, Gear 2nd is a 10x multiplier, Gear 3rd is a 11x multiplier, and Gear 4th is a 40x multiplier. Shout out to this Reddit thread for putting all this info together to begin with, I couldn’t have figured it out otherwise.

Planet-Level Whitebeard?

I’ve already brought up Whitebeard briefly in Kidd’s scaling section but there’s an absence of a certain statement about his capability to destroy the world, and for good reason. In case you’re wondering, said statement comes from Sengoku, where he explicitly says something along the lines of “That man (Whitebeard) has the power to destroy the world!”

Of course with a bold statement like this, it can’t be taken at face value right off the bat. Sengoku may be the fleet admiral of the World Government but he wouldn’t know if Whitebeard actually had the capability to physically destroy the One Piece planet since he had never done it before or showcased any level of power close to that. The word “world” can also have numerous meanings other than the planet itself, and in One Piece’s case, “world” can refer to the social structure, every island in the world, or the destruction of a worldwide organization such as the World Government. With the power that the Quake-Quake fruit grants him, he could either destroy every island on the One Piece planet given enough time, do the same with his far influence/control via the Whitebeard pirates, or destroy the headquarters of the World Government. All of these are viable interpretations of the statement but the one about Whitebeard being able to physically destroy the planet in one go just doesn’t have enough evidence behind it to be viable.

I’ve also seen calculations of Whitebeard causing a Magnitude 6 Earthquake across the planet but frankly a lot of it is based on speculation rather than concrete details from the manga which is why it’s also not included here. In general there’s a lot of assumptions surrounding anything above Whitebeard’s tsunami creating feats, and since Oden was able to match a prime casual Whitebeard, this is the scaling I’ve decided to go with for this blog.

The Jirou-Shaped Elephant in the Room

Ah yes, THAT Jirou feat. I should probably address it huh. In case you’re unaware of what I’m talking about, a certain calculation has come out as of recently that puts Jirou’s sound waves at more than 650 times the speed of light. Yeah, MFTL MHA could very well be real.

(credit of course goes to Rina for the calc)

Now whether this should be considered an outlier or not is currently up in the air right now and this calc is more of a highball that hasn’t gotten any lower results yet but I feel like it’s at least worth mentioning since it’s been relevant for the past week or so. On top of that, it would very much solidify a hero like Jirou as having attacks that go FTL, and since Deku managed to dodge those shockwaves while fatigued, it would easily solidify Bakugo as being within the FTL tiers of speed at the very least.

That being said, I decided not to include it in the blog proper because it’s not exactly a solidified value that’s been thoroughly checked like other feats. It wouldn’t even affect the verdict considering that if we were to upscale Bakugo from Jirou’s new feat, we could simply scale Kidd to Luffy and all his gear multipliers which would be able to match or straight up dominate over MHA’s new calculation (I know it could be considered calc-stacking but my point is that One Piece could absolutely give crazier results that would outmatch MHA’s speed feats). In the case that it were valid somehow and Bakugo is able to get speeds faster than anything Kidd can scale to, it would give Bakugo a slight advantage but still won't matter in the grand scheme of things (once you read through the verdicts you'll see what I mean).

Until this feat is checked for usability, I won’t be mentioning it otherwise.

Verdicts

Toxin

Sup y’all, it’s Toxin here.

It’s of course time for the obligatory verdict but this matchup isn’t actually as clear cut as it seems… kinda. I’ll be explaining why as I go along, and if you know me, I like to split my verdict into three sections so let’s do that!

Smarts and Experience

Intelligence may not be the first thing you think of when you see characters like Bakugo or Kidd but trust me, the smarts are in there somewhere.

Before we get to that however, let’s compare their experience. Both Bakugo and Kidd have had their powers for numerous years and learned how to use them in creative ways during battle but who would be the most experienced in fights overall? Well Bakugo not only got his quirk at a young age and used it ever since but he’s been training at UA High which has truly unlocked his full potential as a hero. From there he managed to stand alongside other Pro Heroes as one of the best and go toe to toe against many dangerous villains and hold his own, the most notable of them all being Shigaraki and AFO, the latter of whom should’ve had decades of experience. Meanwhile Kidd had to learn complicated things such as Haki and the power dynamics of the world all by himself, making a name for himself among the Worst Generation as one of the most dangerous captains of them all. He’s fought against and defeated Big Mom who has decades of experience up her sleeve and he managed to hold his own against Kaido for a brief amount of time. He also manages to stay equal to the powerhouses that are Luffy and Law, both of who are experienced fighters themselves.

With all that being said however, it can be hard to compare their intelligence based off of experience alone so let’s look at their overall smarts. While Kidd has been able to come up with plans mid-battle and know when to keep his distance and use the right moves at the right time, Bakugo should be considered the more tactful one of the two. He analyzes his opponents to a greater degree, he strategizes much more often in battle, he can pass U.A’s exams with flying colors and is overall a high-grade student there, and he would be recognized as a top tier hero for being able to match villains who should’ve had the edge in both experience and cunningness.

The most important thing to mention out of everything however is the fact that Bakugo can recognize when a battle can’t be won, something that Kidd very much lacks with his constant losses against Yonkos. Bakugo may be prideful but Kidd’s on a whole other level, always goes for bigger targets that he can’t ever beat alone, which is a flaw on his part. In fact he isn’t too smart outside of fighting as he always rushes in without a good plan and needs Killer to help make decisions for him. He is smart enough to know how to make his metal constructs but otherwise he’s been lacking in the intelligence area for the longest time. Even in battle where Kidd should be at his smartest, Bakugo’s literally been praised as a prodigy in his own verse and only got smarter ever since he joined U.A. High. Hell, Bakugo deserves recognition for the fact that he learned how to control a power that could’ve easily been used for destruction, something that Kidd fails to do in favor of focusing on the battle at hand.

Since Kidd isn’t as reliably intelligent both in and out of battle, I’ll have to give smarts and experience to Bakugo.

Arsenal

These two are no joke when it comes to the sheer destruction that their powers can bring upon their enemies. You got Bakugo’s crazy powerful explosions and the gear that further empowers those detonations being paired up against Kidd’s magnetism powers that lets him use metal to cause chaos across the battlefield. The question being asked here is whose techniques can dominate over the others’ in an all out fight, and to answer that question, let’s think about this.

A lot of Bakugo’s offensive moves focus on doing close-up damage with the largest explosions he can create while support moves such as his explosive speed let him weave around an opponent and find an opening. He can also use his explosions to blow up any incoming physical attacks and he even has a bit of range with moves such as his AP Shot, grenades and machine guns, or his surprise delayed explosions with his sweat beads. Meanwhile, Kidd has just as many options when attacking from afar and close up. Throwing hands with his metal arm and armament haki is always an option but he tends to keep a distance and throw out more ranged options such as chucking scraps of metal, piloting metal constructs such as Punk Rotten and Punk Corna Dio, shooting out spears with Punk Pistols, knocking weak minded people with Conqueror’s Haki, and just busting out Damned Punk whenever the hell he wants. I mean seriously look at the damage it causes.

Even with both having a wide variety of options at their disposal, they can more or less handle almost everything they throw against each other. Almost. A lot of Eustass Kidd’s metal-based moves can be blown up and Conqueror’s Haki would have no effect on Bakugo due to his high willpower but Bakugo has no answer to Kidd’s awakening “Assign”. Once Kidd slaps that N and S onto him and another surface, he’ll be stuck there, unable to move and being forced to be buried under a huge pile of metal and rubble. Observation Haki would be a pain to deal with too since Bakugo can never be out of Kidd’s sight. He might not even be able to close the gap between him and Kidd if Kidd were to use Repel, and Kidd doesn’t even need to attach metal since Bakugo’s equipment is already made of metal. In fact, there’s nothing stopping Kidd from just… taking all of Bakugo’s equipment away with the exception of his quirk.

Bakugo’s best bet during this fight would consist of two things: his ability to revive himself and the heat from his explosions. The thing about Bakugo’s ability to revive is that it was more of a lucky shot with his sweat rather than something he could consciously do, meaning that it’s not always gonna work 100% of the time. As for his temperature of his explosions, if he were to use a combination of Cluster and his sweat buildup to unleash one final Howitzer Impact: Cluster Bomb, it has the capability to utterly burn Kidd into a crispy chicken tender. Bakugo’s explosions generating heat in the millions of degrees Celsius should be well above anything Kidd has handled such as Hera’s lightning which only gets in the thousands. Whether he can actually land this move or not is something I’ll elaborate on in the final section but overall, Kidd’s better equipped for dealing with someone like Bakugo, even if he has to deal with all those annoying explosions.

Thus arsenal should go to Eustass Kidd.

Physicality

Well now… I think we all know where this is going.

It’s no question that Bakugo is ever so close to becoming a top tier in his verse but he falls short to the likes of Deku or Shigaraki at their peak, so the best we can give him is somewhere along the lines of peak prime All Might/AFO. Even with just that scaling alone, Bakugo is still impressive all things considered. Using his highest stats puts him at high Country level in AP and Durability, accounted for by both by All Might’s prime power being 52 Teratons and that storm punch giving him a yield of 79 Teratons; as for speed, he very much stays within the Relativistic - FTL range of speed, with his highest speeds going up to 38x FTL, but no matter how much we try to buff Bakugo, Kidd is always gonna be way higher it seems.

Starting with Kidd’s AP and Durability, he’s dealt damage to and taken attacks from literal Yonkos such as Big Mom and Kaido, both of whom are considered some of the strongest characters in One Piece. They are absolute beasts in their own right as they can scale to the craziest of feats such as Momonosuke pulling Oginishima and Whitebeard’s earthquakes, both of which easily get into the Petaton range. One could even argue for Kidd directly scaling to Law and his Puncture Wille, which manages to yield an output of 18.9 Exatons. Yikes.

Speed isn’t as pretty of a story either; I mean, as mentioned before, Bakugo’s highest speed scaling was to a prime All Might at 38 times the speed of light but Kidd can scale to Sanji who’s comparable to Sabo stopping Kizaru’s light, scaling as high as 173 times the speed of light. Even taking the lowest value from that calc, which is 49x the SOL, Kidd is still a lot faster than Bakugo at his peak, and that’s not even mentioning how much more powerful everyone got since the movie the feat is from (One Piece: Stampede) takes place after Whole Cake and before Wano. Of course the events aren’t canon but everyone’s stats still should be.

The only stat that Bakugo should actually take is stamina considering he’s shown to have some insane endurance, especially during the Final War arc. Kidd’s also shown some great endurance such as when he kept fighting Big Mom even after being seriously injured but he’s often knocked out more often than not and can’t come back without a full recovery. Meanwhile Bakugo is out here coming back to life (not through stamina) and ignoring all the pain his body wakes up to, refusing to go down on multiple occasions until his body literally collapses on itself.

Overall, stats aren’t looking too great for Bakugo so I’ll have to give stats to Kidd.

Whose agenda is coming out on top???

As unfortunate as it is for Bakugo fans (but not the stans), I do think Kidd takes the victory a majority of the time. Bakugo may have higher stamina, is smarter, and does in fact have wincons, but Kidd’s got him beat in the stat trinity AND the arsenal, both of which is gonna severely lower Bakugo’s chances of winning. Even Bakugo’s revivals can’t save him as it would be delaying the inevitable; oh well Bakugo, you tried.

The winner should be Useless D Mid- I mean, Eustass Kidd.

LandonTalksALot

Say his name and he appears

Yep, it’s me, here to give my opinion on who I think wins instead of finishing Greed vs Choso or the multitude of other projects on my to-do list. Still, I did wanna give my input on the match as well as help out on it, considering my love for and knowledge on One Piece, and did make me wanna go back and finish My Hero Academia.

This match is mostly gonna come down to stats; though it is fairly clear cut, it’s not as big of a stomp as you think. The highest you can realistically put Bakugo at is either Deku and All Might destroying that steel cube in Two Heroes or the Nine storm feat in Heroes Rising, both of which would put Bakugo in the teratons range, which is impressive but still significantly below several different One Piece calcs that Kidd should pretty easily scale to, like Fujitora’s Ferocious Tiger or Law’s Puncture Wille, both of which get petatons and exatons respectfully. Speed is a bit more up-in-the-air, but even if we didn’t use Jirou & Sabo’s FTL feats and just stuck to All Might and Sanji’s feats, Kidd would still be a fair bit faster no matter which end you decide.

Ability-wise, while Bakugo does have some good options for long-range, Kidd does as well and could even just pull Bakugo to him to do some heavy damage, or even just take all of his equipment with his fruit’s powers. While Bakugo is definitely better in terms of strategy and battle-smarts, Kidd isn’t a complete dolt when it comes to it either, and could probably figure out how to pin Bakugo down when he’s flying all over the place with his explosions, and Observation Haki would ensure he knows where Bakugo’s at at all times. And even though Bakugo could get lucky and get revived with his sweat, it’s far too inconsistent and situational to really call it a defining factor, especially with a stat gap that big and considering Kidd’s experience with long, drawn out battles. You could certainly argue Bakugo could get lucky and kill Kidd with the heat of his explosions, but considering Kidd was able to tank Big Mom’s Heavenly Bonbons, an attack from her Homie Prometheus, you could similarly argue Kidd could resist that level of heat anyway.

If you couldn’t tell the pattern by now, a lot of Bakugo’s advantages ultimately come down to what-ifs and a lot of mental gymnastics, and Kidd just simply takes stats and has better abilities even in a roughly-equal stat scenario. Like I said, it isn’t a complete wash, but I do think more often than not, Eustass Kidd has one too many pieces for King Explosion Murder himself to handle.

My goat Mihawk oneshots both

Necrostar

(Necrostar, don’t fear this reaper [that’s a lie fear me])

Oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy oh bo- KABOOM!!!

Greetings everyone, this is my first blog I have ever participated in, I am Necrostar, I’ll try to be as professional as possible (A.K.A. 50/50), and here I am going to tell you how King Explosion Murder is going to horribly die against one of the few One Piece characters I know nothing about... huh.

Stats

Starting with stamina, this is gonna be one of the few stats Bakugo I can say takes confidently having the endurance to go through all the stuff that happened through the War Arc and pushing through who knows how much pain his body can handle. Despite that... Kidd takes Strength, Durability and Speed by a landslide, Bakugo with the highest scaling he can get is sitting at 79 Teratons and 38x FTL, pretty Solid all things considered... but Kidd’s scaling is even crazier, managing to get to 18.9 Exatons and 49x FTL minimum.

So yeah, Eustass is taking stats by a margin. Moving on to...

Arsenal

It's obvious by now that these two are known for their destructive arsenals... and also Bakugo’s ability to revive himself- wait what? Ok I guess that's really useful, but also extremely situational, anyways, add this with his explosions which should actually be able to harm Kidd greatly, the problem is he would have to land these in the first place (and that ain't happening with the speed advantage) plus trying to get around Kidd's equally as massive arsenal, which also has an advantage in long and short range, while Bakugo's are designed to attack from up close most of the time and his “Assign” which would get around his maneuverability, so this point is also going to Kidd.

Smarts and Experience

Holy shit a category where Bakugo actually takes holy shit... admittedly not by much (sorta) but hey it's something. Bakugo may be headstrong and prideful at times yes, but he knows he has limits, something Kidd does not have, always going into a fight confident as hell on his victory, and that's not even mentioning how Bakugo has been proven time and time again as a Prodigy amongst his peers. While close in experience, Bakugo should overall take this category, yayyyyyyyyy.

Conclusion

Bakugo is fucking dead. You can be smart in a fight but that won't matter when your opponent has everything to take you down, and Kidd just happened to do that. Looks like Bakugo is blasting off in pieces, I ain’t Kidding.

The Winner is Eustass Kidd (But we all know he would lose to the absolute menace Eustace Bagge)

Supermonye

How would the Magnet-Magnet Fruit taste? Maybe like a battery?

Oh right, the blog.

Back at it again with another. Thankfully, a much clearer one. Let’s make this quick!

Statwise, Kidd takes the category rather easily. Even though their speed is around a similar range, Bakugo isn’t high enough in the MHA pecking order to scale to the highest stuff, hence, He is MUCH weaker. When it comes to endurance, both have great showcases of Supernatural Willpower. While I’d argue that Bakugo would take this one, this would only be the case if not for Armament Haki enhancing that durability. I do think Bakugo should be faster when you take Explosive speed into account, but I’ll address that later. Overall, Kidd can dish more and take more.

Ability-wise is when this becomes a bit unfair, due to Bakugo’s gauntlets. Picture this. Bakugo rushes at Kidd at high speeds, ready to land a hit of some sort on him. Suddenly, Kidd pulls out his hand and says “Repel”, sending him back from whence he came.

Bakugo outranging him would be fine if Kidd couldn't just also pull him towards him and eviscerate him as well.

To summarize, Bakugo may have been an impressive fighter, but despite better mentals, Kidd’s Stat advantage, better endurance and ways to counter everything that he has is going to leave this damn punk, damn punked.

The winner is Eustass Kidd.

4bituser

So Useless Captain Mid vs Bakugo.

Let’s quickly go over the stats of both character.

Bakugo Stats:
  • AP/Durability: Teratons (scaling to All for One Users)
  • Speed: ~40x FTL (scaling to All Might)

Kid Stats:
  • AP/Durability: Petatons to Exatons (Scaling to Gear 4 Luffy/Law)
  • Speed: ~40x FTL (using the multipliers mentioned plus scaling to Sabo’s movie feat(debatable))
Kid outstats Bakugo in AP/Durability, and their speed is around similar given enough leeway to both. In terms of hax, they both should more or less cancel each other out, though Kid’s awakening gives him an advantage in being able to keep Bakugo away for his railgun to charge and attack. I would also argue Kid can manage to withstand some of the heat from Bakugo due to Prometheus, a Sun Homie Big Mom has. Prometheus could get hotter than the flame resistant Raid suit, so while it may not have a defined heat value, Kid could withstand some of the heat.

Anyways, Kidd should win more often than not. Seems like he’s not so useless and mid after all.

Sato

The Greatest My Hero Ship, Bakugo X Nomu.

Regardless, going over the stat trinity, while it is not a stomp, it is clearly in Kidd’s favor. Bakugo’s AP consistently reaches the Teratons range & Kid's AP reaches the Petatons range. Their Durability should scale to their AP, & while their Speed is similar (Bakugo 38.4c, Kidd 74.92c) using leeway for their higher ends (Sabo & Jiro), I would give Kidd a larger speed advantage (using the Gear multipliers).

Experience and intelligence should go to Bakugo as he has shown to be a much smarter and level-headed fighter & if there were any reason Useless Captain Midd would lose, it would be him making a rash decision. Bakugo is also a great martial artist & overall hand-to-hand combatant as it is what he excels in and is usually his preferred way to fight unlike Kidd. Stamina & pain tolerance as well should be advantages Bakugo holds as while Kidd has fought through some tough situations, Bakugo fought for over 8 hours and kept fighting even after having to restart his own heart.

Abilities wise, they mostly match each other, however, Kidd has a few advantages over Bakugo, like how Bakugo’s uniform is mostly made of metal, Kidd can turn Bakugo into a living magnet, Kidd’s railgun pulls things into it so Bakugo can’t easily escape, Bakugo’s quirk takes a physical toll on his body while Kidd’s fruit doesn’t, and if Kid’s metal constructs get destroyed, he can easily rebuild them. This should also help Kidd by negating some of Bakugo’s few advantages in this fight mainly forced exertion without the aid of his metal gloves will deplete Bakugo’s stamina much faster, while strategies Bakugo might employ like getting in close to Kidd before the use of his fruit would not work since Bakugo has metal on him. This becomes a major problem for Bakugo as he is not only at a physical disadvantage but his usual tactics/arsenal are an active hindrance instead of help.

Overall, Kidd has too much going for him from stats, abilities, and counters. While it is much closer than I first thought, Kidd should take this more times than not.

Germ

Before I get into my verdict, I just wanna give a quick thanks to Toxin and their team for letting me be a part of this blog considering how late I joined. With that out of the way I’ll get into my verdict.

In terms of intelligence and strategy, I think Bakugo easily takes it. Despite both being incredibly experienced in fights, Bakugo is smart in other ways and has been shown making good strategies more than Kidd.

Arsenal and abilities are an interesting story. Both have a lot in their kits with a lot of destructive power, not to mention that they have plenty of counters to each other. Though in my opinion Kidd has the advantage in this department. Observation Haki paired with superior speed (we’ll get to that in a second) would make it hard for Bakugo to land solid hits on Kidd. Adding to this fact is that Kidd can use his devil fruit awakening to keep Bakugo away from him and take away Bakugo’s reliable long ranged options since Bakugo’s equipment is made out of metal.

In terms of stats… yeah let’s not kid (pun intended) ourselves, Bakugo is completely outclassed here. Don’t get it twisted, Bakugo’s stats are good but they just can’t compare to Kidd’s. I’m not going to get into the exact numbers, but yeah Kidd is stronger, faster, and more durable.

So as much as I would love for this to be an underdog story where Bakugo beats a relatively top tier character from One Piece, it just isn’t possible. The winner is the Shanks victim Eustass Kidd.

Kars

(Kars decided to not write a verdict but she instead made a video to summarize her thoughts, and if you watch this, slight warning for a flash of NSFW Bowser)

Summary

Bakugo

Advantages:
  • Greater smarts in and out of battle
  • More experienced with his ability
  • Faster travel speed
  • Higher stamina
  • Resists Conqueror’s Haki with his high willpower
  • Bypasses durability with the heat of his explosions…
  • Has the ability to revive himself…
Disadvantages:
  • Much weaker
  • Much slower reaction speeds
  • Can have all of his equipment taken away
  • Has no way around Assign
  • Will always be tracked with Observation Haki
  • Overusing his quirk will work against him in the long run
  • Techniques such as Cluster would drain his stamina even faster
  • …but there’s a high chance that Kidd could get close to resisting those levels of heat
  • …but he’ll continue to feel copious amounts of pain and a revival isn’t always guaranteed
  • The shipping community

Eustass Kidd

Advantages:
  • Many times stronger
  • Many times more durable
  • Much faster reaction speeds
  • Can take away all of Bakugo’s equipment with magnetism
  • Even if his metal constructs are destroyed, he can easily put them back together
  • Always knows where Bakugo is with Observation Haki
  • Has unavoidable techniques such as Assign
  • The magnetic pull of Damned Punk will make it hard for Bakugo to escape the laser
  • His heat resistance is possibly high enough to ignore the heat Bakugo’s biggest explosions...
  • Can spam his power however he pleases without any real consequences
Disadvantages:
  • Stupid in everything but battle
  • He needs metal within his surroundings in order to use his Devil Fruit
  • It takes time for Kidd to form metal constructs
  • Said metal constructs aren’t as durable as him
  • Most of his one-shot options wouldn’t work
  • ...but an argument could be made that Kidd wouldn't be able to resist Bakugo's explosion from his heat
  • Got ragdolled by Shanks

Potential

(credit goes to LandonTalksALot for the art)

When you put a character like Bakugo on Death Battle, there’s always a guarantee that he’ll have plenty of other popular options to choose from. With that in mind, it may seem strange to pit the deuteragonist of MHA against a guy who only ever makes an decent impact in one of One Piece’s biggest arcs but there’s actually a lot going in favor of this matchup, even including aspects that Bakugo’s other matchups fail to include. Allow me to explain why this matchup is peak fiction.

On a connection level, even the newest of fans could understand why these two are being pit against one another since they’re quite literally the same character when looked at through a writing lens. They are both well-known for being hot-headed and arrogant rivals to a main character that are typically good-hearted and are considered the chosen one of their series. While Deku and Luffy are known for their caring and welcoming nature however, both Bakugo and Kidd are the complete opposite and absolutely make it known to the world that they are prideful fighters that never back down from a battle. Their ultimate aspiration is that of claiming the highest title in their worlds, that being #1 Hero and Pirate King respectively, and they constantly challenge their counterparts for said role by using their greater experience and overwhelming might to showcase themselves as worthy rivals. Even with their foul-mouthed, anger-filled, and rude personalities however, they managed to gain the respect of their peers by becoming very reliable team players of a larger group of characters (Bakugo has Class 1-A with Kirishima by his side while Kidd has his own pirate crew with Killer at his side); they even have the potential to become main protagonists themselves if they weren’t relegated to being a side character. In a sense, they both act as sorts of anthesis for our main MC’s as they go against the very values that those MC’s represent, with Deku proving that a quirk alone isn’t what makes you a great hero and Luffy proving that it’s best to ignore those who laugh at your dreams. They would both go on to witness the end of a current era and the beginning of a new one, giving it all to fight against the strongest of villains even when they had no shot of winning. Despite their hard-fought battles and many, MANY notable losses, they’ll always go into battle with a mean grin on their face and an urge to win.

Getting to see both My Hero Academia and One Piece in a Death Battle episode would also be a cool series combo that we’ve yet to see on the show. Who wouldn’t want to see two of the most widely-beloved Shonen series be used together for an episode? With Bakugo and Kidd specifically, it would give us some of the best interaction potential that they both could get. Even before we consider how the fight goes, the matchup highlights the hero/villain dynamic the two would have which other options don’t even consider. Bakugo would go around acting as the hero and saving civilians while Kidd gets to show off his villainous personality as he tries to go after Bakugo with little regard to his surroundings. The obvious highlight of their interaction potential is of course their rude and foulmouthed behavior, to which I’ll mention that only they both can manage to match each other in energy. Their anger over the course of the battle could lend for some especially arrogant remarks and insults thrown at the other and their indomitable wills would drive their very determination to win no matter what it took. Most importantly however, it would also show sides of them that usually have a blind eye turned towards such as their ability to strategize mid-battle and what kind of ideals they fight for until they can no longer stand.

I haven’t even mentioned how a fight would go down have I? Well this is where I would usually give a summary of how I think a fight could go down between the two but this time around, I’ve actually decided to write a script for Bakugo vs Kidd. I’ve never written a script before so if you’re interested in seeing what I’ve cooked up then feel free to checkout the link below:

(will add link once I finish writing the script :) )

And of course, I always mention the potential music track that could come out of any matchup I make a blog on. When I think about a possible track for Bakugo vs Kidd specifically, my first thought is that of a track that mainly sticks within the genre of punk/metal as it clearly represents their more edgier sides and their general personalities. More specifically, I’m thinking of a track similar to that of “Final Formers” from Frieza vs Megatron (the "DIE!" part especially works considering the two characters we're talking about).

Whether it should have lyrics or not is something I wouldn’t mind either way but it would also be cool if they took aspects of Bakugo’s and Kidd’s themes and incorporated them into the track as well. In fact you could very well fit in bits and pieces from numerous other popular MHA and One Piece songs such as their openings or any general songs that appear throughout the series. I would link every single one here but we’d be here all day if I did that so I’ll list the most notable choices here.

Overall this matchup has a lot going for it that makes it their absolute best for both. I can get most of Bakugo’s matchups but they never really go any deeper than the the comparison of similar powers or an explosive personality (at least not to the extent that Kidd does) and even if you’re one of those people that don’t care about connections, you gotta admit that it’d be cool as hell to see Bakugo blowing up everything that Kidd creates while Kidd causes just as much destruction to his surroundings. The debate may not be there but stomp matchups have been proven to be just as entertaining + it’s not like Bakugo has no advantages to begin with. It can even give Bakugo and Kidd the respect they need after everything they’ve done to make then the laughing stock of their series’ fanbase but maybe the damage has already been done. Nevertheless, Bakugo vs Kidd does a lot right with both and I hope it becomes the episode that Death Battle decides to go with.

I’ve done my part to spread the agenda 🫡

Conclusion

I do find it funny how I decided to make this blog at the literal best and worst time. We got Kidd's embarrassing loss to Shanks animated a few weeks back and just last week Bakugo died in the anime. Crazy how that works. Anyways, now that you've made it to the end, I hope you'll enjoy what's coming next!

Next time on Toxin's DB Corner...
